Flip Factory
Special Needs Classes
This past year the Flip Factory integrated children with special needs into our regular programs. Depending upon each individual’s abilities, either a parent or aid participated in the class or watched from the viewing area and provided additional assistance when required. In some instances, our participants were able to completely integrate into the class without the need of a parents’ support. Each individual is different and our goal is to find an approach which works well for the child, fellow participants, coaches and parents.
For the 2008 - 2009 season, we will continue to offer individuals with special needs the opportunity to integrate into our regular programs. We are also introducing a new class which is less structured than our regular programs. This new class will give participants and their caregivers more freedom to move about the gym focussing on events and activities which appeal to each individual. Coaches will actively encourage participants to try new skills and activities however, should a child wish to spend more or less time at a particular station, the option is there. For this program, a caregiver must be on the floor with the participant at all times.
What special needs do we have experience with?
- ADD and ADHD
- Autism and Asperger’s
- Down’s Syndrome
- Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Cerebral Palsy
- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
- Amputees
